New Local House Project to launch in Cheshire East
Posted 20th January 2026
A new local house project will be launched in Cheshire East which will support young people leaving care to live independently.
The initiative will provide nine months of intensive, tailored support, preparing care leavers for the transition to adulthood, with continued assistance beyond. Through the programme, young people will work together in small groups, creating a strong sense of community and mutual support.
The house project will offer practical guidance and opportunities across all areas of life, including:
- Education and employment advice
- Financial training and budgeting skills
- Cooking and home maintenance
- Support to sustain tenancies and manage responsibilities
Delivered in partnership with the National House Project, the scheme brings a proven model to Cheshire East. Since its launch in 2015, the National House Project has supported over 500 young people into their own homes, transforming outcomes for care leavers across the UK.
Councillor Laura Crane, chair of Cheshire East Council’s children and families committee, said: “Leaving care can be a daunting experience, often marked by instability and isolation. This project is about changing that – giving our young people the tools, confidence, and support they need to build happy, healthy, independent lives. We are proud to bring this successful model to Cheshire East and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have.”
The project will be delivered by a dedicated team working closely with local housing providers and the council’s care leaver ambassadors to ensure every young person has the best possible start.
Recruitment of the new roles to support the programme will be advertised shortly and the first cohort of young people will take place between May and August 2026.
