Cook and Share - Manchester and Trafford House Project group sessions

Posted 6th December 2022

This week the groups got very creative in the kitchen and created a long list of ingredients and ideas of the stuff they wanted to make at the session.
The group at Powerhouse made a curry chicken with plain rice. One of the young people completely took the lead on this and seasoned the chicken and then cooked it down. The team had some fun learning from each other and all taking on different leads to preparing the food. One of the young people said, "this meal is so nice; please can I have a list of ingredients so I can make this?" It was lovely to see our young people bond over food and sharing recipes which brought joy to all.

The group at Gorse Hill was very adventurous and decided to make jollof rice and carbonara pasta dish. Some of the young people wanted the staff to lead and then after this they all started to contribute to making the dish. Contributions were made in different ways such as helping us switch on the electric hob as some of us were having difficulty due to only ever using gas, some chopped vegetables or cooked the pasta whilst another may have stirred the pot or put on some music to create a relaxing atmosphere - it was refreshing to see everyone team up and take on different roles to ensure we achieved the end result - fabulous dishes and working well together!
